Michael J. Feinstein, DO
"Treat your patients as if they were your family", has been the keystone of Dr. Feinstein's medical philosophy since his graduation from medical school in 1974. Moving to San Diego in 1978, he established a practice in North Park where he practiced for almost twenty years. Dr. Feinstein and his long-time associate of over 16 years, Steve Hernandez, a certified physician's assistant, strive to provide caring modern family medicine for their patients. Dr. Feinstein is certified in Family Practice, a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Practitioners, and was honored as Family Physician of the year in 1992.
Dr. Feinstein attended Muhlenberg College where in 1970 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Sciences. He then went on to the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, received his Doctorate in 1974, and continued his training at the College Hospital. There, he completed his residency in Family Practice, serving first as chief intern and then chief Family Practice resident. On completion of his residency, he practiced in Oakdale, Pennsylvania, for two years before heading west to San Diego.
Medical education comprises a large part of Dr. Feinstein's life, as he is on the faculty of Osteopathic medical schools across the country, and often teaches students in his office. Additionally, he has chaired the Committee on Continuing Medical Education of the American Osteopathic Association since 1996. Currently he is serving as president of the Osteopathic Medical Board of California, which license and police physicians in the state.
He comes from a rather medical family, as his father was a surgeon and dean of a medical school, his mother a nurse, his sister a pediatrician, here in San Diego, and one of his two daughters is contemplating attendance to medical school. His other daughter is working on her doctorate in history. His non-medical interests include music (classical, opera, jazz, and Broadway), gourmet cooking (and eating; he is founder of The One Thin Mint Eating and Gourmet Society), and sailing.
